I’m Moonlake, a fiction writer, tabletop roleplaying game designer, Game Master and independent publisher. Originally from Hong Kong, I migrated to Australia at the age of 12 and had settled down in Melbourne ever since.

In 2009, I joined Strolen’s Citadel, an online gaming community that introduced me to worldbuilding and tabletop scenario design. At the time, I wasn’t yet a fiction writer. I was fascinated by building fictional worlds and what I now think of as metafiction—creating settings, histories and cultures that could exist beyond any single story.

That interest gradually led me into fiction writing and later into tabletop roleplaying games. Designing settings for play brought together many of the things I enjoyed most: worldbuilding, storytelling and problem-solving.

Today my creative work spans both fiction and games. Alongside my fiction writing, I design, playtest and publish original tabletop roleplaying settings.

Although my projects range from investigative settings to fantasy worlds and speculative fiction, they all begin in the same place: creating settings that invite exploration, meaningful choices and long-term storytelling.

I don’t expect every project to appeal to every reader or gamer but I hope the ideas behind them—and the process of creating them—are interesting in their own right. If they inspire someone else’s project along the way, that’s even better.

Thanks for stopping by.
